The first day of outdoor pursuits with Skylark Outdoor Pursuits had arrived, and what a glorious day it was.
There was not a breath of wind in the air nor a cloud in the sky when the intrepid group of young people arrived at school and gathered to ensure we all had the right provisions and we knew the expectations for the day.
Our instructor did a quick briefing and then we were off, already into engaging activities before we left the school site. This level of enthusiasm and engagement continued throughout the day as different young people took on different roles, these included map reading, basic compass work and leading the group under the watchful eye of our Instructor.
All of the young people not only showed a willingness to learn new skills, but also an acceptance of the differing ability levels, which enabled them to encourage each other throughout the walk. It was a real privilege to see this from the group, especially when you consider this is only the start of their journey.
