Original Post: The Peak Academy is delighted to announce that Sandra Lewis has been shortlisted in the Teacher of the Year category of the Pride of Cotswolds Awards 2019.
The event, which is run by the Stroud News and Journal, champions people who deserve recognition for their selfless, brave, or generous actions.
Mrs Lewis is the designated safeguarding lead and multi-agency coordinator here at The Peak. Her hard work, effort, and commitment makes her an invaluable member of our staff, and she exemplifies everything that is good about our school.
Upon being informed of her nomination, Mrs Lewis said: “I am truly humbled by the nomination. I love my job working at The Peak Academy and feel glad that in my position I can be, and have been, able to offer support and assistance to so many pupils and their families over the years.”
Sandra has worked in the SEMH sector for more than 20 years, filling roles within both residential and day provision. She began working at The Peak as a teaching assistant, a job she juggled with looking after her two young children. It quickly became apparent that she had a passion for supporting children, and she soon became our safeguarding officer and head of care.
In this role, Sandra led an outstanding residential inspection for three years. She has also overseen and participated in many of our amazing extracurricular activities, spending countless hours with children on canal boats, kayaking, scaling mountains in the UK, and supporting them in walking the Pyrenees.
Sandra’s passion and drive has provided crucial support to The Peak Academy, and her robust procedures and knowledge of safeguarding have made her the perfect representative to work with parents and external agencies and to support our pupils.
The Pride of the Cotswolds Awards ceremony takes place on Thursday 26th September 2019 at Forest Green Rovers FC, The New Lawn, Another Way, Nailsworth GL6 0FG.
We couldn’t be more proud of Mrs Lewis, and everyone at The Peak wishes her the best of luck at the upcoming awards evening.
