Coffee Morning Helps Support the Fight Against Cancer

The pupils and teachers at The Peak Academy enjoyed break time even more than normal last Friday as they raised money for a fantastic cause.

Since 1990, the annual Macmillan Coffee Morning has helped to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. The event has proven to be extremely successful, with more than £200 million being raised over the last 29 years, helping the charity continue the fight against cancer.

This year, for Macmillan Coffee Morning, our learners made delicious cakes and cookies in their food tech lessons, using ingredients donated by their parents, carers, and families. These delightful treats were then sold at a cake sale, held during morning break, which was organised and run by one of our year 11s. We then decided to visit The Hollies, a local residential care home, to share the sweet treats with our friends there. As a result of our efforts, we raised £112 for Macmillan Cancer Support!

Angela Dare, Hospitality and Food Tech Teacher, said: "We were blown away by the generosity of our parents and staff who donated the ingredients and also offered any help we needed to make other items. We would like to say a huge thank you to them all."

Every two minutes, someone in the UK is diagnosed with cancer. Every two minutes. Macmillan Cancer Support is just one of the fantastic charities that puts so much time and effort into fighting cancer and helping those with the disease.

With millions of people across the UK being affected by cancer every day, The Peak Academy is proud to have made a contribution to the Macmillan Cancer Support cause.

We would like to say a huge thank you to all of the pupils and teachers who donated, as well as the staff who arranged the event and made our fundraising possible.
