As soon as you start at The Peak Academy, your education in science explodes into your awareness. You will carry out various scientific practicals, as a result of which you will soon realise how much of a science-dependent society we live in.
Within biology (the study of life), you will learn about the relations that different living things have with each other as well as the environment. You will learn about your body through dissections as well as other investigations, and you will learn about the genetics that make you who you are.
Within chemistry (the study of materials), you will carry out a range of experiments, ranging from reactions involving acids to reactions that occur in fireworks.
Within physics (the study of matter and its motion through time and space), you will learn about the wonders of space, the transfer of energy, and how forces can be manipulated to allow us to make jobs easier. When you are in Y10 and Y11, you will even learn about sub-atomic particles and how they can be utilised for energy.
In KS3, you will loosely follow the Lonsdale Exploring Science scheme of work and investigate the topics within the three traditional sciences.
In KS4, you will study BTEC applied science as well as GCSE single-award science in Y10. In Y11, you will either continue to study BTEC applied science or go on to complete GCSE double-award science. It is our ambition that every student who completes their secondary school education at The Peak Academy leaves with a qualification in science.
Whether or not you wish to pursue a career in science, engineering, technology, health care, or any other STEM industry, a qualification in science will take you far. This is because the process of following method, obtaining results, and drawing conclusions is useful in every single job out there.
