The end of the week has arrived again and it was time for our group of intrepid outdoor enthusiasts to embark on another session of forest mentoring at the school's fire area.
Arriving at school the group were full of enthusiasm to get on with the challenge for the day, which involved many different tasks. These included clearing the fire area and re-laying the top layer, replacing a side of the fire pit, collecting firewood, making a fire and then having a go at shelter building. With support and encouragement from the staff involved, all of the group were able to access different elements of the challenges. Not only did they demonstrate the schools values in abundance, they displayed many other life skills, together with working towards AQA qualifications.
It was a pleasure to see just how far they have progressed on their journey, which was epitomised by the new member of the group who has really connected with the whole experience.
