Local Governing Body


The governors of The Peak Academy have a wide range of experience and expertise. They meet regularly and work in close partnership with the principal to determine the school’s aims and agree policies. targets, and priorities for the development of the academy in order to continuously improve the standards of education and promote a safe and caring environment for the benefit of our pupils. Academy governors have legal duties, powers, and responsibilities. However, they can only act together, not individually.

Below you will find more information about the role of our academy governors.

Governors are appointed to help:

  • By working in partnership with the headteacher.
  • With the implementation of the academy development plan.
  • Advise on spending the budget.
  • Interview and select staff.
  • Ensure that all aspects of the curriculum are taught.

Academy governors are:

  • Parents.
  • Staff at the Academy.
  • Academy sponsor representatives.
  • Community representatives.

Parent governors:

  • Have a pupil in the Academy.
  • Are elected by parents of the Academy.
  • Serve, as other Governors, for four years.

Parent governors bring the views of parents to the governing body, but they act and speak as individuals. They have equal status in the work of the governing body.

When our parent governors reach the end of their term of office, or if an individual resigns, parents will be invited to stand for election onto the governing body.

Current Governors

Philippa Dancey

WHF Governor and Chair Responsible for Leadership and Management, Safeguarding, Children in Care, & Attendance (Term of Office: March 2018 to March 2022)

Philippa Dancey has extensive experience as a governor having been chair of governors at a Gloucestershire primary school from 2002 to 2014. She is currently chair of governors of the Ridge Academy, a primary special school for pupils with social, emotional, and mental health Issues having joined their governing body in November 2012. Philippa has attended the following relevant training courses:

Safeguarding Children; Safer Recruitment; Exclusions; Performance-related Pay; Children in Care; Headteacher Appraisal; Governor Self-evaluation; Outstanding Governorship

Christopher Dunn

WHF Governor and Vice Chair Responsible for Behaviour and Conduct, Health and Safety, Finance, & Mental Health (Term of Office: April 2018 to April 2022)

Chris Dunn has been a long-term governor at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust due to his pharmaceutical background. Chris brings valuable medical experience and useful contacts from this role and has completed the following relevant training courses:

Child Protection E-Learning; Hidden Harm E-lEarning; Domestic Abuse E-Learning; Child Sexual Exploitation; Infection Control Competency; Fire Competency; Manual Handling Competency; Safeguarding; Human Factors in Patient Safety; Transgender Awareness for Employers and Service Providers; Academy West of England Understanding Quality Improvement

Mike Allen

WHF Governor Responsible for Progress & Teaching and Learning (Term of Office: March 2018 to March 2022

Mike Allen has 25 years’ primary school headship experience. Since retiring in 2004, he has been commissioned as acting headteacher in 11 mainstream primary schools ranging from 44 to 340 pupils. He is on the Gloucestershire Acting Headteacher Register and is a member of a local baptist church. Mike has completed the following relevant training courses:
